Anti-Reflux Surgery (Laparoscopic Fundoplication)

What is it?

Anti-reflux surgery is designed to treat chronic gastro-oesophageal reflux disease (GORD). The most common procedure, known as fundoplication, involves wrapping the upper part of the stomach around the lower oesophagus to strengthen the valve that keeps acid in the stomach.

Why choose this?
    • Long-term relief from reflux and heartburn

    • Reduces or eliminates reliance on acid-suppressing medication

    • Improves sleep, swallowing and overall quality of life

What to expect?

The surgery is performed laparoscopically under general anaesthetic. It typically takes about 60–90 minutes and most patients spend one night in hospital. Recovery is generally smooth, with return to work and normal activity in 1–2 weeks.

You’ll start with a soft diet for the first few weeks, gradually returning to regular foods. Temporary symptoms like bloating or difficulty swallowing may occur, but usually settle with time. Our team will guide you through recovery with tailored advice and follow-up.
