Mini Gastric Bypass (One Anastomosis Gastric Bypass)
What is it?
The mini gastric bypass, also called one anastomosis gastric bypass (OAGB), is a streamlined version of the traditional gastric bypass. It involves creating a smaller stomach pouch and connecting it further down the small intestine with just one join (anastomosis). This limits how much food you can eat and reduces calorie absorption.
Why choose this?
- Shorter, simpler operation than the Roux-en-Y bypass
- Offers similar or greater weight loss outcomes
- Fewer surgical joins may reduce risk of complications
- Improves metabolic health, including type 2 diabetes
What to expect?
This minimally invasive procedure is performed laparoscopically under general anaesthetic. Most surgeries take around an hour and require a 1–2 night hospital stay. Recovery is generally smooth, and many patients return to normal routines within a couple of weeks.
After the procedure, you’ll follow a structured diet plan, starting with liquids and slowly progressing to solid foods. You’ll also receive long-term nutritional and lifestyle support from our clinical team to help you get the most out of your surgery.
The mini bypass offers a powerful combination of simplicity and effectiveness—and is increasingly recognised for its excellent long-term results.
